Shirley met Richard Schamerhorn during elementary school at Waukee, Iowa; and they were married on December 28, 1944. To this union was born Sandra Irene, a baby boy who died at birth, and Mark Richard.
Shirley enjoyed reading, especially Agatha Christie books. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting and made many shawls and afghans for her family. She enjoyed her grandkids and great grandkids. When she was able, she'd go to as many sporting activities as possible and always asked how they were doing in school. She was a guide at Living History Farms for 1 1/2 years. She was a member of the Truro United Methodist church where she taught Sunday School for many years, helped with rummage sales and luncheons, and loved to sing in the choir. She was unable to attend church regularly after her diagnosis of Parkinson's disease in 2005.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; infant son; and sister, Charlotte Halstead.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Richard Schamerhorn of Truro; daughter, Sandra (Eldon) Schultz of Truro; son, Mark (Ronna) Schamerhorn of Dublin, GA; grandchildren, Bruce (Jeana) Schultz, Richard (Stacy) Schultz, Dixie (Mike) Davidson; great grandkids, Kyle, Wyatt, Allison, Travis, Crystal, Caleb; nephews, Brad (Rochelle) and Kent; nieces, Susan and Shelly (Scott); other relatives and friends.
