In Memoriam. Scared to The Memory Of Mrs. Martha Sanders

Chauncey, Ga. May 11, 1895.

The death angel visited our vicinity on the 12th. ult. and took from our midst, to God who gave it, the spirit of a true and noble Christian woman, Mrs. Martha Bennetta Sanders. She had not been in our immediate vicinity but a short while. She soon established a high place for herself in the estimation of all she met, carrying a smile and a ray of sunshine into whatever home she entered. But she is gone from her dear husband and children.

The deceased was born April 8, 1856, and departed this life April 12, 1895, aged 39 years, 4 days. She was born and raised in Laurens Co, Georgia, till she was twenty-one years of age, and then her father moved to Pulaski County. She was the daughter of Mr. Thomas Israel and Elizabeth Hobbs Alligood.

She was married to Mr. Wilson Lumpkin Sanders in 1884 and they have ever lived a devoted life to each other up to her death. But she is gone forever to a brighter, happier world than this, and our loss is her eternal gain. The duties, labors and sufferings of our sister and true friend is ended.

Twenty one years ago she united herself with the Missionary Baptist church at Bethany, Pulaski County, and was baptized by Rev. D.N.Fann, and lived and died a consistent member.
Her membership at death was at Mount Carmel Church, Laurens County.

She leaves four small children, one sweet little babe six months old the day its mother died. She also was the step-mother of nine children, three married, and she has ever been loving and kind to them, never giving them a harsh word. She leaves an aged father and mother and three brothers and three sisters, who mourn her loss and have bright hopes to meet her in heaven.

The body was taken to its last resting place in the family burying yard at Mount Carmel Church and consigned to the grave in the presence of a large assembly, mostly relatives
But let us not mourn her as lost but strive all the more to meet her in heaven

Burial: Mount Carmel Church Cemetery, Laurens Co, Ga.
