Barney F. Lantry, 84, of Helena, former supervisor for the Town of Brasher and the oldest Democratic committeeman in New York State, died on Mar. 20, 1961 in Massena Memorial Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1876 in Helena, the son of Henry W. and Nancy Driscoll Lantry. He was educated in Hogansburg and Massena schools and from Albany Business College in 1900. He and Mary McCarthy were married on June 24, 1913. She died on Apr. 30, 1960. He was a dealer in livestock. He served as supervisor of the Town of Brasher for eight years. An ardent Democrat, he served on the Brasher Town Democratic Committee for over 50 years and was the oldest committeeman in the Democratic Party in New York State and had served on the town committee longer than any Democrat in the state. He was Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a communicant of St, Church in Hogansburg.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Roderick (Nancy) Mahoney, and Mrs. Robert Kathryn) Derouchie, both of Helena, and Mrs. Roy (Patricia) Barstow of Potsdam; two sons, Henry B. and Jerry M., both of Helena; 19 grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Ann E. Lantry of Helena and Mrs. Patrick (Helen) Hallahan of Brasher Falls, and two brothers, Harry O. and Thomas G., both of Helena.
