Fred Alson Garey was born 23 Aug 1861 in Benton Co, Iowa, the son of Loved and Mary Brewster Garey. He died 19 Dec 1881.
He and two of his sisters died in Linn Co, IA of Diptheria.

Gary: obit At home, near Marion Dec 19,1881, Fred A. Gary, aged 20 years and 4 months, the only son of Loved and Mary Gary. The deceased was sick 14 days of diphtheria but was not confined to the house all of that time. His death was very unexpected and sudden. Fred was a young man of good habits, noble character and great promise. His death
is a severe stroke to the family and shock to the community. His funeral took place at the house Tuesday, and was conducted by his Pastor, Rev. W. A. Waterman.The sympathy and sorrow manifested by friends and neighbors upon this occasion was real and deep. We commend the family to care of Him whose presence is the shadow of a Great Rock. The latest report from other members of the family if hopeful and encouraging.
