Mrs. G. Sitzmann

Mrs. George Sitzmann, lifetime resident of near Kingsley, passed away on Thursday, July 19, at her home near Kingsley. Although she had been in failing health for several months, her death was unexpected. She was 67 years of age.

Mary Carel was born September 29, 1888, in Plymouth county, Elkhorn township, near Kingsley, the daughter of James and Mary Carel. On February 21, 1911, she was united in marriage with George Sitzmann at St. Joseph's church, Neptune, where they have been lifelong parishioners.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 AM Monday, July 23, at St. Joseph's Catholic church, Neptune. Rev. Alphonse Sitzmann was celebrant of the solemn high mass with Rev. Marion Sitzmann deacon. Rev. Lloyd Carel acted as sub-deacon. The celebrant and the deacon of the mass are sons of the deceased. Rev. Lloyd Carel is a nephew of Mrs. Sitzmann. Rev. G.R. Wingert was master of ceremonies.

Burial was in the St. Joseph's cemetery in Lincoln township under direction of the Wiltgen-Luedtke funeral home.

Survivors include her husband George; nine daughters, Sister Mary Annette OSM of Denver, Colorado; Sister Mary Ambrose OSM of Detroit; Sister Mary Marcella OSM of Omaha; Sister Robert Mary OP of Alpena, Michigan; Sister Marie Jerome OP of Detroit; Sister Mary Rosalie OSB of St. Mary's Hospital, Pierre, South Dakota; Sister Mary Faith OSB of Little Convent, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Ruth (Mrs. Robert Morrissey) of Leland, Iowa; Marlys (Mrs. Marcel Koopman) of Kingsley. Also surviving are two sons, Rev. Father Marion Sitzmann OSB of Norfolk, Nebraska, Rev. Father Alphonse OSB of Conception Abbey, Conception, Missouri.

Also surviving are two brothers, James Carel, Merrill, and Bernard Carel of LeMars; four sisters, Mrs. Wm. Sullivan, LeMars, Mrs. Ed Sitzmann, Hinton, Mrs. Harold Carr, San Antonio; and Mrs. Fern Davies of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Also eight grandchildren.

Deceased was preceded in death by a son, Donald, and a daughter, Vivian Ann.

Mrs. Sitzmann was honored with the title of Lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepluchre of Jerusalem a few years ago.
