Had Lived In LeMars 33 Years
Mrs. Mary Carel, resident of LeMars for the past 33 years, died at her home, 935 Second Avenue SE on Monday, February 10, after a five weeks illness.
Mary Britt, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Britt, was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on August 26, 1862, and was 84 years, 5 months and 14 days of age at the time of her death. She came to Lincoln township with her husband when a bride of 19 and they left the farm to move to LeMars 33 years ago. She was united in marriage with James Carel at St. Joseph's church in LeMars on November 29, 1882.
Mrs. Carel is survived by three sons, William and Bernard Carel of LeMars; James of Hinton; five daughters, Mrs. George Sitzman of Kingsley; Mrs. Will Sullivan of LeMars; Mrs. Ed Sitzman of Hinton, Mrs. Harold Carr of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Lee Davis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one brother, Joe Britt of LeMars; one sister, Mrs. Charles Lite of Sioux City, 30 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter.
The remains will be at the Wiltgen Funeral Home until noon Tuesday and at the home until the time of services, which will be held at St. James church in LeMars on Wednesday, February 12 at 9 o'clock. Solemn requiem mass will be celebrated by her grandson, Rev. Lloyd Carel of Sheldon, assisted by Rev. L.J. LaVelle of LeMars and Rev. Bernard Kocher of St. Joseph's church in Lincoln township. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery in Lincoln township.
