Elna Adelle Arnold Johnson Cooper (1914 - 2013)

Henderson, TN - Elna Adelle Arnold Johnson Cooper, age 98, passed away January 17, 2013 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Madison County and reared in Chester County, the daughter of the late Allen A. and Edna Bain Arnold. She attended schools in Chester and Madison County, and graduated Pinson High School in 1933, and attended Lambuth College where she received her elementary certificate, and Bethel College and received her B.S. Degree. She later received her Master's Degree at Memphis State University, and was certified in Library Science. She taught in Chester and Madison County Schools for thirty five years, retiring in 1979.

She was married to Robert Lee Johnson in 1944. They made their home in Chicago, IL where Mr. Johnson was employed by Sears. They returned to Chester County in 1954 and made their home there since that time. Mr. Johnson died in 1976. She was married to Clarence C. Cooper in 1991 and continued to make her home in Chester County.

They made their home in Ohio and Kentucky until 1997 when Mr. Cooper retired from construction work.

She was a member of the Eastern Star 120 in Henderson since 1942 and served in IL, KY, OH, and TN, where she served each order as Worthy Matron.

She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, serving as president and former member of the Henderson B & PW Association, a member of the TN Education Association, the National Education Association and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband, Clarence Cecil Cooper of Henderson; two sons, Herbert Lee Johnson of Jackson and Dennis Robert Johnson of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Rachel Leigh Pavlovich, Zach Johnson, Joshua Johnson and Taylor Johnson, and two sisters, Leandra Martin of Jackson and Inez Palmer of Huntingdon.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Moselle Jones, Louise Wilhite, Eva Rogers and Gladys Spencer; three brothers, Neill Arnold, T J Arnold and Allen Arnold.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Shackelford Funeral Directors - Casey Chapel, with Ronnie Sells officiating, with burial in Friendship Cemetery in Chester County.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, at Casey Chapel, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Casey Chapel.
