Vernice Cornilus Bentsen, 73, passed away at
his home in Frankfort, Kansas on April 14,
1976.

Vernice was born in Randolph, Kansas on
December 8, 1902, and lived most of his life
in and around Frankfort, Kansas. His parents
were James Nicholas Bentsen and Laura C.
(Hansen) Bentsen. He was baptized at the
Swedish Lutheran Church in Randolph.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Violet
Strader on December 23, 1930. His wife
Ruth survives and also a son, Bernard Dean
Bentsen, Wichita, Kansas; a daughter, Mary
Alice Backman, Bellevue, Washington, three
grandchildren, Joni Lynn Bentsen, Nancy
Lee Backman and Tim Howard Backman.

Other survivors include four brothers, Jack
Bentsen, Emery Bentsen, Raymond Bensten,
and Lawrence Bensten; four sisters, Alice
Leupold, Esther Cunningham, Ellen Bowser
and Mary Ann Wegal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his
step-mother Laura, a sister Ethel and a
brother Fred, who was missing in action in
World War II.

Vernice or "Vern" as he was known, was for
many years a truck driver and construction
worker. He helped build the First National
Bank building and the present high school
and also some homes in Frankfort.

In 1960 he was in a automobile accident and
suffered a disabling stroke. His health
continued to decline since 1960.

Funeral services were held at 4:30 p.m. Friday
April 16, 1976 at the Padden Funeral Home in
Frankfort, Kansas.

Burial was in Frankfort Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
