"Mrs. Esther E. Rhyde, aged 59, of Richfield Springs RD 3, a lifelong resident pf the area, died Wednesday morning, February 22, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, where she had been a patient for the past two months. Mrs. Rhyde was born October 6, 1907 in Fly Creek Valley, the daughter of Schuyler and Eloise (Jarvis) Pope. She was married to Rufus Rhyde on June 28, 1928. He died August 15, 1954. Since 1959, Mrs. Rhyde had worked at the Thanksgiving Home in Cooperstown. Surviving are three sons, Donald J. of Hamilton, Douglas S. of Richfield Springs RD, and Edward of Richfield Springs; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Vibbard of Edmeston and Mrs. Anthony Hribar of Richfield Springs RD; two brothers, Jarvis Pope of Syracuse and Robert Pope of Caldonia; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 24 from the Ingalls Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Albert F. Almstedt, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fly Creek Cemetery in the spring. The family will receive their friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. The family requests that those who desire may contribute to the American Cancer Society in her memory."
