A retired painter, Edward K. Sampley, 73, of Jermyn, was killed Thursday when his car was struck broadside by a tractor trailer at Jermyn, northwest of Jacksboro on State Highway 199.

Sampley was crossing the highway from a dirt street when the Eagle Truck Lines truck, driven by R. T. Gandy of Birmingham, Ala., struck his 1955 model automobile. The truck was loaded with onions.

The victim was pronounced dead on arrival at Jack County Hospital, Jacksboro. The body was taken to Hawkins Funeral Home.

Sampley had been a resident of Jermyn for 35 years. He was born at Fort Payne, Ala. May, 26, 1887.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, one son, two brothers, four sisters and one grandchild.

Mrs. Alma Blount of Olney attended the funeral services, held at 2:30 p. m. Friday at the Jermyn Methodist Church.
