Rev Clabourn Miller Sampley married Miss Georgia Etta Shafer on 1 September 1885. The couple came to Texas in 1910 settling at Bryson, Texas, then later moving to Jermyn, Texas.
Rev Clabourn Miller Sampley was repeatedly a double winner in the Olney Pioneer Day celebration established in 1947. He tookd the award for being the oldest person present and along with his wife, won another for being the couple married the longest.
Always active in Methodist Church affairs, Rev. Sampley was on hand to turn one of the first spades of dirt when the local congregaton started its building program in 1951. Mr. Sampley was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years.
Services were held at the First Methodist Church in Olney officiated by Rev. W.J. Shelton, the pastor.
Survived by his wife; three sons - E.K Sampley, R.A. Sampley, J.W. Sampley; four daughters - Mrs. C.D. Thornton, Mrs. Robert Padgett, Mrs. John Bogard, Mrs. Bill Breedon; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
