John Burgin, Milford,
Has Fatal Accident,
Died Sunday Morning

A terrible accident occurred last Friday afternoon about 2 o'clock to John Burgin, when he was sawing wood a few miles west of Milford. The saw struck a knot on the wood breaking the shaft and the saw struck Mr. Burgin in the head, tearing it open from the forehead to the back of his head, taking out a piece of the skull and injuring the brain. He was rushed to the Milford hospital where first aid was given and then taken to the Spencer hospital where he died at 6 o'clock Sunday morning.

John Leo Burgin was a son of John Calvin and Josephine (Townslee) Burgin. He was born at Edgewood, Iowa, on November 5, 1879. He came to Milford with his parents when 8 years old, they making the trip in a covered wagon. On November 23, 1901 he was married to Miss Isabelle Prior, of Sioux Falls, S.D. To this union three children were born, two daughters and a son. They are Ralph and Mrs. Guy (Fay) Smith, of Milford, and Mrs. Glen (Irene) Goodwin, of Charles City. Those who are left to mourn his loss besides his wife and children are two brothers, Fred Burgin, of Edgewood; Gene, of Milford; two sisters, Mrs. Earnest (Laura) Prior, of Estherville, and Mrs. Fred (Lulu) Lamm, of Elk River, Minn., and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Waldo Richards and interment was made in the Milford cemetery.
