Ivy was the fourth of six children born to Jacob Anderson and Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Fields. Her siblings were Virgil, Carmel, Vester, Inez, and Aleta.

Ivy met and married a gentleman from Kentucky named Ivan John McFerran on July 19, 1922 in Kansas City, MO. They had one son, Ivan John 'Jay' Jr. born at home on August 24, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri.

After Ivan & Iva divorced, she moved with her young son to St. Louis where she met Elmer E. Bollinger. They united in marriage on June 18, 1930. Iva was a payroll clerk for St. Louis County before retiring in 1963. In 1965, Elmer retired from their business, Bollinger Exterminator Service and they moved to Kansas City, Kansas to be closer to family. She was active in a variety of organizations and loved to travel the world. She was a member of the Sincerity Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kansas City, Kansas.
