Lizzie was the second of two daughters born to Hiram Jackson Fields and Isabella M. Gray. Her older sister was Nancy Ann. After the early death of Isabella, Hiram remarried to Mary Elizabeth 'Mollie' Gaulden on October 27, 1880 in Ray County, Missouri. Their four children were Laura Belle, Charley Simpson, Minerva Jane, and Hiram Jackson, Jr.

Lizzie married Jacob Anderson Akers on February 25, 1892 in Ray, Missouri and began their life of farming. Their children were Virgil, Carmel, Vester, Iva, Inez, and Aleta. After the death of Jacob, Lizzie moved to Kansas City, Kansas to be near her daughter, Inez.
