Longtime resident of Fairland, Oklahoma Mrs. Lyda May Burris entered Heaven's Gates on Sunday May 9, 2010 in Fairland, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years.
Lyda was born in Copeland Switch, Oklahoma January 6, 1926 to her parents Bob and Myrtle Hill Hunter.
On May 30, 1946 Mr. Leon Burris too Miss Lyda Hunter as his bride in Baxter Springs, Kansas. He and Lyda have resided in Fairland, Oklahoma ever since.
Lyda has been a longtime and dedicated member of Fairland First Baptist Church. Many children Lyda has cared for and watched over in the church nursery during her 40 years of service.
Lyda loved to cook. If she was not whipping up some of her wonderful meals at home, you could find her at the Fairland School cafeteria feeding the children she so enjoyed and loved. No child went hungry on Lyda's watch.
Lyda had many hobbies such as sewing, quilting but her favorite joy were her children and grandchildren.
Although she is no longer with us, her memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends she leaves behind which include: Her husband of 63 years Leon Burris of the home, 2 Sons: Roger and wife Margaret Burris of Fairland, Oklahoma, Bill and wife Karla Burris of Dunawig, Missouri, 1 Daughter: Carolyn Beehler of Fairland, Oklahoma, 2 Brothers: Alvin and wife Faun Hunter of Miami, Oklahoma, George and wife Kathy Hunter of Hickory Grove, Oklahoma, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of longtime friends and neighbors and church family.
Lyda is preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters: Luchinda Sayers, Audry Mahurin and Fay French, 3 brothers: David, Lemuel, Alfred Hunter. Pallbearers serving will be: Billy Burris Jr., Corey Burris, Jason King, Bob King, Jimmy Burris and Austin Kinsey.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at Fairland First Baptist Church with Brother Troy Selsor and Rev. Andy Krebs officiating.
Interment will follow at Fairland Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends for visitation on Tuesday evening May 11, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Fairland, Oklahoma.
