Bernice Myrtle Cornett Smith, a longtime White Salmon resident and educator, died
Saturday at Valle Vista Nursing Home in The Dalles at the age of 91.
Mrs. Smith was born July 13, 1892, in Portland, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Cornett. She came to White Salmon with her family December 6, 1905, from Condon, Ore.
She was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Order of Eastern Star 107, 63-year member of Goodwill Rebekah Lodge 163 and a member of Bethel Congregational Church. She spent 49 years in education in the State of Washington and retired from the White Salmon School District in 1960 after 38 years of teaching and serving as principal of the elementary school.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Liest, Jackson, Calif.; a sister, Jessie Peeler, White Salmon; three grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.
Services were Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with the Rev. Arthur Dickie officiating. Interment will be in the White Salmon Cemetery."
