Died Sunday Morning.

GRANITE Falls --- July 26. Funeral services for Harmon S. Smith, 75, were held at Dudley Shoals Baptist church near here this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. He died at his home near here Sunday morning at 5:30 o'clock. Rev. Mr. Benfield conducted the funeral services.
The deceased is survived by his widow and the following children: Osborne Smith, Mrs. Ed Bowman, Herbert Smith, Mrs. D. B. Fowler, Mrs. Ed Starnes and Mrs. Oscar Sherrill, all of Granite Falls; and the following sisters: Mrs. Will Atkinson, of Richmond, Va., Mrs. T. H. Barber of Fort Mills, S.C.

Harmon Savannah Smith was born in Davie County on Oct 5, 1861, a son of William Osborn and Rachel Melvina McMaham Smith. On Jan. 11, 1887, he married Mary Elizabeth Furches.
In 1889 they moved from Davie County to Petra Mill, Caldwell County, NC.
He was the Postmaster of Petra Mills Post Office from May 3, 1897 until it was moved to Granite Falls on Oct. 31, 1906.
They had seven children: Mary Melvina Smith(1888-1888), (Twins), Osborne Lewis and Minnie Belle, Savanah Herbert, Mattie Camilla, Lois, and Irene. and they also had 31 grandchildren.
