WHITLEY CITY Othel Coffey, 61, of Pine Knot, Ky., died Thursday in Lexington Ky, His wife, Mrs. Mamie Coffey, survives, funeral, p.m. Sunday, Freewill Baptist Church, Pine Knot, Ky. His body is at the Hickman Funeral Home here.
My Grandpa,He was a Minister at the Pine Knot Free Will Baptist Church that he helped build many years ago.He is the son of Captian "Cap" Coffey and Lettie McBride.
The building picture is the original Pine Knot Free Will Baptist Church.John Smith donated the land for it.It was built by Othel Coffey and his brother in laws Edgar and Lonnie Baltimore.Othel and Edgar were both ministers.They took up collection money from the miners at Stearns where they worked and from anyone who wanted to donate
so they could build this little church.Edgar had a concrete mixer and made the blocks for the foundation.If it weren't for these 3 men and everyone who donated there would be not Pine Knot Free Will baptist Church today.
