Nadia C. Elins - Library Commissioner - Martinsburg -

Nadia C. Elins, 67, died Friday at City Hospital following a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Irene and Sol Cohen. She was 1943 class valedictorian of Martinsburg High School and a graduate of both Stephens College of Columbia, Mo., and Barnard College of Columbia University in New York. She was a member of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Library Commission since 1957, and was appointed Commissioner Emeritus in 1993. She was instrumental in the planning and development of the present library building. She served as corporation secretary and was later named president of the Berkeley Upholstering Company. She was a member of Congregation Beth Jacob Synagogue, Martinsburg, and a past president of its Women's Auxiliary. She was a member of Beth El Congregation, Winchester; Phi Beta Kappa; the West Virginia Library Association; charter member of the Friends of the Library; American Association of University Women; and the Richard III Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Elins, and a daughter Anna F. Elins. She leaves two sons, Michael D. Elins of Martinsburg, and Daniel J. Elins of Alexandria, Va. Services will be 2 pm Tuesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg with Rabbi Howard Folb officiating. Interment will be at the Congregation Beth Jacob Cemetery, Martinsburg. Calling hours are from 7 to 9 pm Monday at the funeral home and the family residence following Tuesday's services. Memorial contributions to: Martinsburg-Berkeley County Library, Congregation Beth Jacob or Beth El Congregation in lieu of flowers.
