Alice was the sixth of eight children born to Charles Adolph and Clara (Richter) Heiden. She worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Company as chief operator for the Lake Geneva branch. She retired in 1975, after 45 years of service. She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva and The Wisconsin Telephone Pioneers of America. She was survived by her sister Louise Robinson and several nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by two sisters: Rose and Lillian; four brothers: Charles, Harry, Robert and Herman. Alice was my father's first cousin. She is buried next to her sister Lillian.
Alice lived on Haskins Street in Lake Geneva for most of her life. The house was built in 1835 and moved from its location in downtown Lake Geneva to Haskins Street in 1896. Alice's parents purchased the house in 1898. The house is believed to be the oldest home in Lake Geneva. A visit to Alice at her home was truly a treat. She knew the history of every tree, bush and garden on the property. Her home was filled with family treasures. She knew the history of every light fixture, piece of furniture or dish. And didn't mind sharing this history with visitors.
