She was a daughter of Ferdinand and Amelia (Hunske) Richter. Clara married Charles Adolph Heiden on August 7, 1899 in Chicago, Illinois. They had eight children: Charles, Harry, Lillian, Robert, Rose, Alice, Herman and Louise Alma. Clara owned and operated a local grocery store/bakery from her home on Haskins Street from 1908 until about 1936. During the Great Depression, Clara was known for her generosity to others. She would give baked goods to neighbors who could not afford to buy and were hungry. She later worked for the Oakwood Sanitarium. Clara was the oldest living member of The Immanuel Luthern Church in Lake Geneva at the time of her death.

LAKE GENEVA - A family party for 50 guests helped celebrate the 89th birthday of Mrs. Clara Heiden at her home at 510 Haskins St. All of her eight children and their spouses were with her and it is the first time in more than 18 years that the entire family had been together. The children are Charles, of St. Louis; Harry, of Des Plaines, IL; Lillian Koch of Blair, WV; Robert, of Arlington Heights; Rose Schuld of Harvard, IL; Herman, Alice and Louise Robinson, all of Lake Geneva.
