Phyllis Rose Brooks, 73, beloved wife, mother and grandmother of Charlottesville, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Martha Jefferson Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born in Covington, Virginia, on September 29, 1935, to the late Harry and Bertha Rose.

She and her husband are the long-time owners of Reid Super Save Market on Preston Avenue. She enjoyed the outdoors and took pride in her flower gardens. Her most cherished moments were when her husband, daughters, sons-in- law and grandchildren came together. She was a giving individual, who always thought of others first. Her generous and loving heart touched many and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry Rose Jr., Jack Rose, Boyd Rose, and Leo Rose; four sisters, Mary Rose, Mildred Wolfe, Marvin Goff, and Ilene Yopp; and her in-laws, Charles H. and Frances L. Brooks.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, H. Kennan Brooks; her two daughters, Kim, and Sue, sisters, Betty and Barbara, five grandchildren that were the light of her life, a brother-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special kitty, Patty. In addition, she considered the employees of Reids a part of her family.

A funeral service was held Sunday, August 9, 2009, at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home with the Reverend Sidney Craig officiating.
