He was a 1949 graduate of Spottswood High School, and served his country during the Korean Conflict.He was the long-time owner of Reid Super Save Market on Preston Avenue. He was also the owner of the Reid Super Save Market on the Downtown Mall prior to its loss due to fire.
His outgoing and compassionate way was a positive influence on the many employees and customers with which he came into contact. He enjoyed working in his yard, spending time in his workshop, and family gatherings.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Phyllis Rose Brooks; his mother-in-law, Bertha Rose, and several brothers- and sisters-in law.
He is survived by his two daughters, Kim Brooks Miller and her husband, Kit Miller, of Esmont, Va., and Sue Brooks Clements and her husband, Billy Clements, of Charlottesville, Va.; brother, Edwin Brooks and his wife, Martha of Spottswood, Va.; five grandchildren, Kelly Six and her husband, Jeremiah of Roanoke, Va., Kenny and Kevin Miller of Esmont, Va., Brittany Frazier and her husband, Jason of Charlottesville, Va., and Cory Clements of Charlottesville, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Avery Frazier of Charlottesville, Va.; sisters-in-law Betty Breeden (Charles), and Barbara Breeden; numerous nieces and nephews, and his Reids family.
The family wishes to thank Princess Wiley for her loving care of our father over the past 18 months. We feel certain that her fun-loving and thoughtful ways extended and enriched his life.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016,at the Hill and Wood Chapel with Pastor Clay Marsh officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.
