Edward Cain was born in Saline County, Illinois to Samuel and Jenny Cain. He married Amanda Jane Tyner In Jackson, Illinois October 18, 1851. Edward and Amanda came to Oregon by ox team from Illinois in 1864. They lived for awhile in Yamhill county. They moved to Walla Walla, Washington in 1865 and then returned to Oregon. They settled in Fall Creek, Oregon in 1869.

Edward and Amanda had 12 children: William M., Squire William, Joshua, Sarah Ann, Mary Jane, John Marshall, Samuel, Edward Jr., Martha Ellen, James Monroe, Elzora Amanda and Rachel.

Edward struggled in the later years of his life because of a stroke he suffered, shortly after his son Monroe drowned. He died January 18, 1905. He and Amanda had been married for almost 54 years.

Edward Cain, aged about 71 years, father of Monroe Cain, who was recently drowned on the upper Willamette river, is suffering from a paralytic stroke, the entire right side of his body being paralyzed.
