Joshua Cain

Joshua Cain, 80, a resident of Lane county since 1885, died late Saturday at the Sacred Heart hospital. He was born May 20, 1857, in Illinois, and came west with his parents Edward and Amanda Jane (Tyner) Cain, at the age of seven, crossing the plains by ox team. After living in Walla Walla, Washington, for a year, the family came to Fall Creek; after living there three years, he moved to Lowell, where Mr. Cain lived until his death.

Survivors are Mrs. Sophia Cain; four daughters, Mrs. Iva Almasi of Portland, Miss Elsie Cain of Los Angelas, Miss Stella Cain of San Francisco, and Miss Wanda Lee Cain of Lowell; two sons, Clifford of Harrisburg, and Ray of Westlake; two grandchildren, Audray Stone of Portland and Maxine Cain of Westlake; one brother John, of Lowell, and two sisters, Mrs. Elzora Winfrey and Mrs. Ellen Crandall, also of Lowell.

The funeral will be held at Lowell church Wednesday at 1 p.m., Rev. Cecil Anderson officiating. The Poole chapel is in charge.

Joshua Cain was the mail carrier between Lowell and Hazel Dell for a time.
