Mrs. Clarissa Deal, Pioneer Resident, Passes Away
Mrs. Clarissa Deal, 89, a pioneer resident of the Jones community, passed away last Friday evening at the home of her daughter Mrs. Lester Judkins, northwest of Jones. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Assembly of God Church in Jones, Rev. George McCoy officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
OBITUARY
Clarissa German was born February 13, 1862 on the banks of Lake Michigan in Illinois, only a few days after her parents arrived in this country from England. While she was very young, she moved with her parents to Butler County, Kansas, where she grew to womanhood. It was at this place she met Mr. Winfield Scott Deal and was united in marriage to him October 13, 1870. When Oklahoma was opened for settlement in 1889, Mr. Deal made the run and staked a claim two: miles south of Jones, which is now: occupied by the Decker family. His family joined him in their new home the winter of the same year, and remained on this homestead until 1918, when they moved to Jones where Mr. Deal died in the year of. 1920. Since then Mrs. Deal has been making her home with her children until death overtook her April 11, 1941, at the age of 89 years, 1 month, and 28 days. Mrs. Deal was converted at the age of 13 days, and joined the Baptist Church. After coming to Jones she placed her membership in the Christian Church, and in her later years it was her pleasure to listen in on the radio to the religious programs. Now that she is ushered into the presence of God and the Angels it will be one eternal day of praise and rejoicing. She leaves to mourn her departure, five sons, and one daughter; three children having preceded her in death. The living are A. W., Fred, Oscar, Ira, and Mrs. Susie Judkins of Jones, Oklahoma. and John of Luther, Oklahoma, also 22 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a great number of friends.
