His obituary in the "Austin (MN) Daily Herald," issue of December 12, 1914: "The following from the Dodgeville, Wis. Chronicle will be read by friends of Mr. TYRER who knew him in Austin. He has visited his brother here, his last visit was six years ago, when he remained a month.'

From: "Dodgeville Chronicle," an issue of Dec. 1914:
"Elisha Tyrer died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Geo. E. Salladay, Nov. 30th at 12:30 am. He was born 78 years ago at Columbus, Ohio, and was a son of Luther and Sarah Tyrer. His mother died while he was young. He was raised to manhood by Dr. Asa Tyrer of Dodgeville, his uncle. On Aug. 15th, 1862, he and his brother, Robert, enlisted in Co. C of the 31st Wis. Inf. Volunteers, and served three years, at which time he was honorably discharged therefrom and returned to his home at Dodgeville. He was married in July 1865 to Miss Mary A Bunting, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bunting of Dodgeville."

"To this union seven children were born; six surviving the father. The mother died on Sept. 12, 1896 at Dodgeville. The sorrowing children are: Mary E. Thomas, Lucinda A. Sherman, Eli W. Tyrer, Ida B. Davey and George A. Tyrer of Bell Center, Laura M. Salladay of Beloit. Amos L. Tyrer died at the age of seven months. He also leaves one sister, Isabel Faragher, of Watertown, SD, one brother, Robert Tyrer of Austin, Minn and fourteen grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home of Charles Sherman, conducted by Rev. Enoch Pickering, assisted by Rev. M. D. Peavy. The remains were laid to rest in the Eastside Cemetery."

"Elisha Tyrer, a Civil War Veteran, Dies. Elisha Tyrer, aged 75 years, a veteran of the Civil War, died this morning at 12:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Salladay, Euclid Ave, after a lingering illness with a complication of diseases. Mr. Tyrer was born in Kentucky, Oct. 14, 1836. For several years he made his home in Dodgeville, Wis, where funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon. The GAR will have charge of the services at Dodgeville. "

"Brief funeral services will be held at the Salladay home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. The remains will be taken to Dodgeville at 11 o'clock. Mr Tyrer is survived by four daughters, Mrs. George Salladay, Beloit; Mrs. W. R. Thomas, Standard, Wis; Mrs. Ida Davey and Mrs. C. J. Sherman of Dodgeville and two sons, Eli Tyrer of Dodgeville, and George Tyrer of Bell Center, Wis."
