"KINGMAN, Ind. - Gertrude J. Ellis, 76, of Kingman, passed away at 11:28 a.m. EDT Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
She was born July 7, 1930, in Veedersburg, the daughter of Pearl and Stella (Fogleman) Brewer. She married Durward Ellis Aug. 1, 1948, in Covington. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Ellis was a lifelong member of Prairie Chapel Christian Church and was recently attending the West Liberty Church of Christ. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and IU basketball. Her many interests in life included gardening, horseback riding and camping with her family. She will be best remembered for the great love she showed toward her family, especially her children and many grandchildren.
Survivors include: son, Steve Ellis, Veedersburg; daughter, Anita Ellis, New Mexico; daughter, Martha (Ralph) Gates, Danville, Ill.; son, Jeff (Becky) Ellis, Kingman; sisters, Hazel Gookins, Mellott and Dorothy (Ralph) Kruger, Veedersburg; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. EDT Saturday, March 31, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Pastor Sam Guilliams officiating. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. EDT Friday, March 30, at the funeral home. Family requests memorial contributions be made to West Liberty Church of Christ, Covington.
