She was born on March 3, 1955, the daughter of Durward and Gertrude {Brewer} Ellis, both deceased.
She was united in marriage to Ralph Gates on March 31, 1979, in Danville. He will miss her dearly. She will also be missed by her sons, Brian (Michelle) Gates and Travis (Kristel) Gates; her daughter, Brianna Gates; her grandchildren, Brandon Gates, Tobey Wagoner, Brandi Wagoner, Sierra Gates, Jordan Gates, Robert Gates and Angelo Gates; her brother, Jeff (Becky) Ellis and her sister, Sharon Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Steve. Martha worked in her early years at Tee-Pak in Danville for ten years. She most recently had worked at K.I.K. where she retired from. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Georgetown and a member of the Women of Steel, as well as, past President of the United Steel Workers Union. She enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband, Ralph and her dog, Bo. Martha enjoyed collecting Betty Boop memorabilia and was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. The family would like to give a "special thank-you" to Scott with Carle Hospice for his care of Martha.
A celebration of Martha's life will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, June 1, 2012, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Pastor Coy Overpeck officiating. Visitation will be 4 - 8pm, Thursday, May 31, 2012, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville. Memorial donations may be given in her name to Carle Hospice.
