Mr. Alfred Benge died at his home in Floris, Sunday evening, at 7 o'clock, April 14, 1918, after several weeks illness from a complication of diseases. He was a highly respected citizen and will be greatly missed in th is community, having lived here and in this neighborhood all of his life. He was the first president of the Floris Saving Bank, which position he held until two years ago, when he voluntarily resigned on account of declining health. The funeral will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church, of which he was an active member. Interment at the IOOF cemetery. Obituary next week.

Alfred Benge was born in Matholmy county, Indiana, April 4, 1841, and departed this life April 14, 1918, age 77 years, 10 days.
He like many other brave patriotic boys of 1861, enlisted at the outbreak of the civil war to preserve the union, re-enlisting in 1864, and serving until the close.
He united in marriage to Amanda Pottorff, February 18, 1864, and to this union was born nine children, the oldest, Chester, having proceeded him in death.
During his early manhood days he chose Jesus as his savior and companion and united in the Baptist church remaining a faithful member til called to a home beyond.
He leaves to mourn his loss a loving wife, three sons, William, Jeff, and John, five daughters, Mrs. Sarah Hale, Mrs. Mahala Clark, Mrs. Tilla Christy, Mrs. Mae Belle Mutchler and Mrs. Anna Baird, all of Floris, besides a host of relatives and friends. Not to weep over his loss, but of his departure.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 16, at 2:00 o'clock at the Floris Baptist church conducted by Rev. Alvah Huff. Burial at Floris.
