Amanda Benge, daughter of Preston and Louisa Pottorff was born in Pthlema county, Indiana, March 6, 1843, and died April 5, 1927.
In 1856 she came to Iowa with her parents and made their home near Bloomfield.
She was united in marriage to Alfred Benge, February 18, 1864, and began housekeeping on a farm about four [4] miles southeast of Floris. They moved from their farm to Floris about 35 years ago where they remained.
This union was blest with nine children, four sons and five daughters: Chester, deceased; William, Jefferson, John, Mrs. Sarah Hale, Mrs. Douglas Clark, Mrs. Dave Christy, Mrs. George Mutchler, Mrs. Charles Baird, all of Floris.
Some fifty odd years ago she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and united with the Baptist church at Floris, where she ever remained a faithful and devoted member until death. Besides her children she leaves 40 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren; also one brother, Albert Pottorff of Bloomfield survives her.
Her husband, one son Chester, 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren preceded her in death.
The funeral was conducted at the Baptist churh at Floris at 1:30, Thursday afternoon, April 7, conducted by Rev. Childs of Ottumwa. Interment w as made in IOOF cemetery at Floris.
The pallbearers were Dossie Benge, Vessie Bales, Floyd Christy, Harry Christy, Virgil Benge, Glen Mutchler, Wayland Mutchler and Ray Baird.
