Morristown Messenger, Friday, February 6, 1976:

A Husband's Tribute

Edna McMichael Dooley began this early race on November 20, 1901, which terminated January 31, 1976.

Her parents were Albert and Phoebe McMichael, farming on the banks of Little Blue River. With the river and hills close by and three brothers and two sisters, her childhood prospects for lots of fun were made very interesting.

As a child she was marked with considerable brilliance, being able at the age of four to read the first read of the schools of that day. This brilliance was characteristic throughout her life. She finished with high marks in her grade and high school work at age 17. Her college work was taken at Wesleyan Central, Indiana Central and Marion Wesleyan College, from which she graduated in 1925 with high marks.

Her teach ministry followed at Central Wesleyan, Marion College, Great Commission Schools, and Arlington High School. This service was marked with an earnest and honest effort in behalf of her pupils.

Along with her student and school life, she was a shining star in her home life. Owing to her mother's death, she accepted the housekeeping burden for her father and brothers at age 13. Then after several years in the schoolroom, she was called back to her father's farm to care for and assist her ailing father. Together they kept the home fires burning and did some farming over a period of seven years. The end year of this period marked the termination of her father's life.

Work in the Arlington Bank engaged her time for the next two years, after which she became the wife of a minister, her pastor, D. C. Dooley. This took place September 12, 1949.

As I, this minister, check back over the past 26 years, every one of them, because of her business ability and financial generosity, have supplied me with a situation of much security. As the lady of the parsonage and my co-worker, she was ideal. I am sure the account book in Heaven is showing many more points of merit than this brief sketch. She has now exchanged the temporal for the eternal. -- D. C. Dooley
