Durant Hunt was a veteran of the Civil War. He was a resident of Page County, IA, when he enlisted at the age of 19 years. He mustered into Co A 4th Iowa Cavalry 23 Nov 1861.

Durant was captured in action 22 Jun 1863 at Bear Creek, Mississippi. He was exchanged 6 Sep and returned to service 14 Oct 1863. He re-enlisted and re-mustered on 12 Dec 1863. Durant was taken prisoner a second time on 14 Dec 1863 at White's Station near Memphis, Tennessee.

Durant mustered out on 5 Jun 1865 at Clinton, Iowa, when a paroled prisoner of war on furlough.

He died at the age of 83 years 10 months.
