Cemetery Notes:
This tombstone is located by the far south/4th entrance to the cemetery. Go two rows into the cemetery from the main road, and you'll see it on your right hand side, two stones away from the driveway. As of the date of this photo, this tombstone was very worn. By touch, it can be determined that the first name is Stephen and the last name is Hunt. The middle initial feels like an S., although his actual middle initial would have been a D. The birth date and death date are missing entirely from the face of the stone. Thankfully the military unit is still fully legible as Company E, 8th Iowa Cavalry. The tombstone closer to the road is still clearly legible, and marks his son Alphonso Hunt's grave. Neither man's wife has a stone nearby, but there are empty plots next to each man's grave, that perhaps held stones at an earlier date. ~~ Mary Hunt
