Leola was the youngest child born to the second marriage of her mother, Catherine McDonald Duncan as well as the second marriage of her daddy, Newton E. Fitzpatrick. According to an obituary in the Bastrop Adviser, Newton Fitzpatrick died on Tuesday, 17 March 1874. Leola was born seven months after the death of her father.

Catherine McDonald Duncan married N. E. Fitzpatrick on 23 July 1868, Bastrop County Marriage Records. Catherine and Newton had four children:
1) John who was born 14 May 1869 and died July 1873. John was buried in Piney Church Cemetery, Mt. Bethel.
2) Sallie Catherine was born 29 July 1870. Sallie married W. Abner Mills on 24 June 1896, Bastrop County Marriage Records. Sallie died on 22 October 1954 and is buried Oak Hill Cemetery.
3) Charles Benjamin Fitzpatrick was born 17 February 1872. Ben married Molly Landrum Hamilton on 03 May 1900, Bastrop County Marriage Records. Ben died on 20 August 1943 and is buried in Elgin City Cemetery.
4) Leola "Lee" was born 24 October 1874 (seven months after the death of her father). Leola married James "Jim" Wesley Duncan-Dunkin in December 1893. Leola died 16 July 1928 in Houston, Texas, and is buried Oak Hill Cemetery between her husband and son Emzy Dade Duncan.

Leola Fitzpatrick married J. S. (James Wesley) Dunkin/Duncan on 22 December 1893, Bastrop County, Texas.
There were four sons born to this marriage:
1) Jewel Aubrey born 10 December 1895 in Bastrop County, Texas. Aubrey married Maude Emma Wier daughter of Peter Allen Wier and Lilly Mae Snow-Tabor-Evans-Wier. There was on child born to this marriage: Jimmie Allen Duncan. Aubrey was a brakeman for Southern Pacific Railroad. Aubrey died 19 November 1951 was on a hunting trip in Edwards County, Texas when he had a fatal heart attack. Aubrey is buried in Forest Park Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
2) Newell Amther born 08 December 1897 in Bastrop County, Texas. Newell married Rosa Lee Evans daughter of Thomas Harvey Evans and Rose Anna Dietz Evans on 25 January 1931. There were three children born to this marriage: Jerry Ben, Patsye Lee and Gordon Thomas "Butch" Duncan. Newell died 31 March 1978 in Lavaca County, Texas. Newell is buried in Salem Cemetery located on FM 531 twelve miles south of Hallettsville in Ezzell, in Lavaca County, Texas.
3)Emzy Dade born 07 May 1899 in Bastrop County, Texas. Emzy Dale married Emma Mae Frost on 18 December 1920. There was one child born to this marriage: Jewell Arnold 20 September 1921. Jewell Arnold died 25 January 1969 in Midland, Texas; buried in Burton Cemetery, Dale, Caldwell County, Texas. Emzy Dale died 23 May 1930, Tom Green County, Texas. Emzy Dale is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, McDade, Bastrop County, Texas beside his parents.
4) Frederick Gordon born 27 August 1907 in Bastrop County, Texas. Gordon was married to Hazel Lucille Wacey, one stillborn son 30 June 1930, buried Greenwood Cemetery, Dallas, Texas; Lillian Cooper and Jewell Edith Williams Pollard (a twin). Gordon died 15 January 1995 in Baytown, Harris County, Texas. Gordon is buried in Palms Cemetery, Liberty, Texas.

The 1900 Census for James Wesley Duncan and his wife Leola Duncan and sons has not been located.

Jerry Duncan, son of Newell said that this family lived in Brady, Texas in about 1903 where Jim ran a grocery store. Jerry also said that the family had moved to a drier climate since Lee had a lung problem. There is a picture postcard of Ben Fitzpatrick's children addressed to Lee Duncan, Rochelle, Texas, dated November 2010 in family papers.

MRS. LEOLA DUNCAN
Mrs. Leola Duncan, 53, died at her home in Houston at 10:22 o'clock Monday Afternoon July 16, and was shipped to McDade yesterday morning by the Settegast-Koph Co. Funeral Services were held yesterday afternoon with interment in the McDade cemetery.
She is survived by four sons, J. A. of Yoakum, N. A. and F. G. Duncan of Luling, (note: son Emzy Duncan is not listed on obituary but was alive on her date of death); three sisters, Mrs. Laura Duncan and Miss Mollie Fitzpatrick, Austin and Mrs. Sally Mills, McDade and one brother, Ben Fitzpatrick, of Elgin.
Mrs. Duncan has many friends here who will regret to learn of her death.
