Gordon's father Jim Dunkin died in 1918, a flu victim. His passing left a large hole in the hearts of all family members. I have a photo of my mother standing by his headstone with her arms around the "Woodman of the World" headstone. He was a father figure to my mother and a helpmate to his wife and an example for his sons. According to one writer of his obituary, his funeral had the largest attendance that could be remembered in the Oak Hill Community.
