She was born December 9, 1914, in Hooper, Utah, the daughter of Edward Penman and Ida Mary Jones. She attended schools in Kanesville and Hooper, Utah, and graduated from Weber High School in Ogden, Utah. She married Ralph Wadsworth Child on March 25, 1937, in Coalville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Marguerite was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Primary teacher, Relief Society president, Young Women's president, secretary in the Sunday school and as a Relief Society visiting teacher. She loved to crochet and knit; these talents were put to use making quilts that were given away to people who needed them. She was a superb homemaker, cook and she spent many hours working in the fields beside her husband, while keeping up her prized yard and garden. She also worked for Dayley Shoe Store and Van Engelens Department Store. Marguerite loved both genealogy work and spending time with her family; these virtues were passed on to her children.
