Was the son of Wilbert and Martha Adkins. He was a coal miner and died of black lung when his youngest son was only a month old. He married Daisy Delphia Ferrell on December 16, 1930 and they had nine children: Delores Lee, Freda Gay, Bernie Harold Dean, Charles Eugene, Ralph Denver, Donald Ray, Robert Glenn, James Douglas and Kenneth Darrell.

Bernie Adkins, 38 years old, died Saturday Oct 27 in the Logan General Hospital. Mr Adkins was a son of Mr. and Mrs Wilburt Adkins of Sias, Wva. Until his recent illness and death, Mr Adkins had been employed by the Paragon Coal Company at Logan. He was a church member and an active civic leader in his community. The Rev. Ebb Cummings, assisted by the Rev. Collins, of Logan, conducted the funeral services which were held at the Collins Knob Church of Sias. The music was furnished by the Peck's Mill Trio. Besides the parents, Mr Adkins is survived by the widow, Mrs. Delphia Adkins, eight children, Doris Freeda, Harold, Ralph, Donald, Robert, Jimmy, and Kennith; three brohters, Moggie, Okey and Robert Adkins, and six sisters, Lelia, Lema,Leva, Geneva, Peachie and Pearl. The Harris Funeral Home of Logan was in charge of the funeral.
