Jake Gerk of Sterling, a Logan County resident since 1908, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1986 at a Sterling nursing home. He was 87.
Recitation of the Rosary will be 8 o'clock this evening (Monday) at Tennant-Hettinger Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday from St. Catherine's Church, Iliff, the Rev. Thomas Clement the celebrant.
Burial will follow in Riverside cemetery.
Mr. Gerk was born May 3, 1899, in Province, Enter Rios, Argentina, South America, the son of Michael and Katherine Kloster Gerk and came to the United States in 1908, homesteading and settling in the Iliff area. He attended schools in Logan County, married Margaret Sommer, Feb. 1, 1926, and farmed in the Iliff area until retiring in 1970.
Mr. Gerk was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Gerk of Iliff; five sons, Joe Gerk and Herman Gerk, both of Iliff, Lawrence Gerk of Greeley, Stanley Gerk of Boulder, and Bifi Gerk of Ft. Collins; seven daughters, Rosemary Rizzolo of Sterling, Margie Schmitt of Sidney, Neb., Dorothy Fehringer and Regina Sande, both of Denver, Agnes Gerk of Sacramento, Calif., Rita Fehringer of Peetz and Loretta Gerk of Colorado Springs; 38 grand children and 15 great-grandchildren.
Tennant-Hettinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
