Jerome P. Carter was born on September 14, 1952 in Los Angeles, California to Lillie and Sharpper Carter. He was the sixth of eight siblings.

In 1957 after the death of his mother Lillie, Jerome and his seven brothers and sisters went to live his mother oldest sister Susie and her husband Bill. Susie and Bill loved the children and became the mother and father they needed.

Jerome received his education in the Compton Unified School District, attended Longfellow Elementary, Enterprise JHS, and he graduated from Compton High School.

Jerome always had a love of music, especially playing the drums, and excelled as a musician which earned him a scholarship in music to Grambling State College in Louisiana; where he was a member of the famous Grambling Marching Band.

Jerome was raised in a Christian home and at the age of 9 he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was baptized at Good Faith Missionary Baptist Church by Pastor Gus Giles. Throughout his life Jerome attended other churches. In 2010 he rededicated his life to the Lord and he reunited with Good Faith MBC.

In 1974 Jerome enlisted in the United States Army and served for 6 years. Including 5 years in Germany where he met and married Linda Aretumba and where their son Jeffery was born. He returned to the United States and went to work for the United States Postal Service, where he was employed for 30 years.

In 1991 a mutual friend introduced Jerome to Betty Morris, the woman who would become his soul mate. Everyone who came into contact with Jerome and Betty witnessed the Love and respect they had for each other.

Jerome was a sports enthusiast and a die-hard Lakers fan. He enjoyed going to Lakers games and watching the Lakers and Rams on TV. He loved to spend time with his family and friends especially his lifelong friends Marvin and Lester Cotton.

On Tuesday, the evening of April 26, 2011 Jerome answered God's calling and departed this life. He was gracefully accepted into the kingdom of Heaven, where he was greeted with open arms by his loving parent's Lillie and Sharpper Carter, his Aunt Susie and Uncle Bill Carew, his Brother Donald and Sister's Delores and Brenda.

Those left to cherish his memory are His son Jeffery Carter, Soul-mate Betty Morris, three Sisters Gildria LeMay, Janice Woods, Yolanda Carter, one Brother Marnard Carter, two Stepsons, Harold and Kevin, two Lifelong friends Lester and Marvin Cotton and a host of other relatives and friends
