Ruth Porter, 84, died Feb. 29, 2004 at her home in Taylor.

Ruth was born and raised in Taylor. She attended elementary school there and attended Snowflake Union High School where she graduated with the class of 1938. After high school she married Marlin "Mart" Porter of Heber in the Mesa Temple. They made their home in Heber and raised their family there, moving to Taylor in 1969. Ruth enjoyed being a homemaker, and caring for her children and grandchildren was the highlight of her life. She was a great cook and always enjoyed having family and other guests in for meals.

Ruth loved raising house plants and could make them last forever. She enjoyed going out into the woods with her husband and family. Mart was a lumberman, logger and rancher and Ruth went with him whenever she could. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in the various auxiliaries of the church.

She is survived by one son, James L. (Sharon) of Gilbert; five daughters, Joyce (Gerry) Brewer of Snowflake, Vicky (Tom) Owen of Scottsdale, Diane (John) Hunt of Mesa, Marsha (Mark) Caldwell of Snowflake and Karen (Art) Hargrove of Taylor; one brother, Klye Shumway of Taylor; two sisters, Bernice Skinner of Mesa and Barbara (Wayne) McGrath of Queen Creek; 33 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mart in 1998; son, Farrel in 1997, and a granddaughter in 1967.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6 at the Taylor Stake Center, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There will be a visitation from 9-10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in the Heber Cemetery.
