Sir William Grierson of Lag, was the first son of Sir Robert Grierson and Henrietta Douglas. He was 2nd Baronet and 14th lineal chief of Clan Grierson and was a Commissioner of Supply in 1704. He held the office of Member of Parliament (MP) for Dumfriesshire, Scotland, from 1709 to February 1711. In 1715, he joined the 1st Jacobite Uprising, and was captured, along with his younger brother Sir Gilbert. He was pardoned in 1724. He was disinherited by his father, and did not inherit his estates. He succeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Grierson, of Lag, County Dumfries (N.S., 1685) on 15, 1736.

NOTE: Dunscore was a parish located in the former county of Dumfriesshire. Both county and parish ceased to exist following the Local Government (Scotland) Act of 1974. Dunscore is now located in the Dumfries and Galloway Council Area.
