He is the 16th un-recognized Chief of Clan Grierson, by the not very knowledgeable Court of the Lord Lyon of Scotland.

The Lord Lyon recognizes him as the 4th Chief of Clan Grierson. He was the 4th Baronet of Lag.

(Sir) Gilbert Grierson was born 13 Feb 1698, Dalry, Kirkcudbright, Scotland, died February 7, 1766, Town of Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland. He married Elizabeth nee Maitland Grierson, daughter of Richard Maitland, and his wife, Elizabeth BELL, on marriage date November 25, 1737, at Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland.

Dalkeith is pronounced in the Scottish-Gaelic: Dail Cheith.

In 1715 he joined the Rising (Uprising) & was captured. He was (Writer) & (Chamberlain) to the Duke of Buccleuch, from c. 1722 - 1765. He succeeded to the title of 4th Baronet in 1765, upon the death of his newphew, (Sir) Robert Grierson, his older brother, James Grierson's son.

Gilbert Grierson & Elizabeth Maitland had issue known, :

(i) Richard Grierson,
(ii) Anne Grierson,
(iii) Jane Grierson,
(iv) (Sir) Robert Grierson, 5th Baronet, born c. 1738, Scotland, died August 8, 1839,
