The son of Jakob Baer and Magdalena Steckler born in Karslrhue, Ukraine. Spouse of Anna Marie Schilling Baer and Katherine Moffenbeier Ochs. Sebastian married Anna in June of 1871 in Karlsruhe, Russia.He must have been a couragious man to pack up his family and move to the United States in search of a better life. They arrived in the US on May 12, 1893. They had traveled IV class with 6 pieces of luggage. Together they had 11 children. Only 6 would live to see the United States. Sebastian was a farmer. Sebastian love to sing and taught his children to sing as they did they chores. He was a religious man. After the death of his beloved Anna, Sebastian was left with his six children to raise. In June of 1900 he left with the wagon and brought back his new wife, Catherine Maffenbier Ochs, a widow with 3 children from Hosmer, SD. (Catherine had 6 chldren, but only three at home at that time.) He felt he couldn't raise his children on his own. Sebastian's children had a hard time accepted Catherine as their step-mother. Sebastian and Catherine were married for twenty-five years until his death in 1925. Catherine died 3 months later.
