SOUTH BEND - Firmin A. Adams, 87, passed away on Thursday, January 26 in Hospice House, South Bend. Firmin was born on December 12, 1924 to his parents, Cyriel and Valerie (Van Holesbeke) Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents; a young sister, Elodie; his brother, Albert, who was killed in Africa during World War II and his dear nephew, Larry Van De Putte. Firmin served with the Navy 107th Seabees for three years during World War II. During that time he was stationed in the South Pacific on the Island of Tinian where the Enola Gay was based. Firmin was employed for many years at the Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation in Mishawaka and retired in 1986. He was a member of VFW Post 360 in Mishawaka and a Mishawaka High School graduate. He is survived by his sister, Elsie Elizabeth Wozniak, and his wife, Vernelle (Snyder) Adams, whom he married in 1968 in Mishawaka. Firmin was a devoted son, brother, uncle and a loving husband. He was a kind and gentle man with never a harsh word for anyone. He will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will be held on Monday, January 30 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Beth Ernest will be officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorial contributions may be made in Firmin's name to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637.
