Vernelle S. Adams, 99, of South Bend, passed away on March 17, 2023. Vernelle was born in Chicago on March 13, 1924, to the late Gustaf T. and Hildur Carlson. The family moved to South Bend in 1941.

In 1945, Vernelle married C. Everett Snyder. He preceded her in death in 1964, as did her stepdaughter, Nancy Lord in 1974. Vernelle and Firmin Adams were married in 1968 and enjoyed many happy years together. Firmin passed away on January 2, 2012. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Marva Jean Carlson and Dorothy Mae Carlson and her brother, Ted Carlson.

Vernelle was employed for over thirty years at Dodge Manufacturing and later enjoyed being at home working in her garden, doing handwork, painting and caring for her dogs. She was a member of the Covenant Community Church and the Monday morning bible study class, which were both very important to her. Over the years this group helped bring comfort and joy to her.

Survivng Vernelle is her nephews, Robert (Mary) Carlson and Gary (Debra) Carlson; her nieces, Cheryl (James) Peyton, Christine (Kenneth) Deitchley and Laureen (Kirby) Whitacre, who were all a great source of joy for Vernelle. Also dear to Vernelle were her great nieces, Amy Deitchley, Angela Carlson, Kristen Eby, Alexis Whitacre, Laurel Thomas, Rachel Curren and her great nephews, Matthew Deitchley and Anthony Whitacre.

Visitation for Vernelle will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 11am-1pm, on Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, with a funeral service to begin at 1pm. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN.
