Elsa Abel

Elsa Meyer Abel, 98, of Waco, formerly of Riesel, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at a local nursing home. Services will be at 11 a m, at Trinity Lutheran Church near Riesel with the Rev. A. E. Gallmeier officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Waco. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m. Friday at Wilkierson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd.

Mrs. Abel was born July 23, 1902, in the Wiedeville Community of Washington County, Texas, to Henry F. and Ida Vahrenkamp Meyer. Elsa and her family moved to Falls County in 1907. She was united in holy matrimony to Edward Abel at Trinity Lutheran Church near Riesel on Dec. 4, 1924. After their marriage, she and her husband farmed north of Riesel for about 59 years. When their health began to fail they moved to Waco in November of 1983.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward on Jan 6, 1987, brother Albert, and sisters Rosa Meyer, Lydia Fleischhauer and Clara Klawitter. Survivors include her son Erwin Abel and wife Margaret of Woodway, daughter Dorothy Paar and her husband Ed of Woodway, sister, Selma Koester of Riesel; Grandchildren, Michael Abel and wife Lisa, Kathy Bayer and husband Jerry, Kenneth Paar and wife Linda and Brenda Rhodes and husband Jimmy; and great grandchildren, Scott and Allison Abel, Jerome, Jonathon and Jordan Bayer, Jennifer Mitchell and husband Scott, Ashlee Paar and Kristen and James Rhodes.

Pallbearers will be Mike Abel, Scott Abel, Jerry Bayer, Kenneth Paar, Jimmy Rhodes and Jamie Rhodes.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Riesel or Hillcrest Hospice.
