MONROE CIVIC AND CHURCH LEADER DIES

Heber Swindle, 62, for years prominent in civic and religious activities at Monroe, and a former mayor of the city, died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. F. A. Hammond of Ephraim, where he and his wife had been visiting a week. Death resulted from a chronic heart ailment.

Born November 28, 1875 at Monroe to George and Mary Swindle, he obtained his early education in the Monroe schools and later attended Snow college at Ephraim and the Utah State Agricultural college at Logan. He was made bishop of the Monroe ward and served for several years before leaving for a mission in the northwestern states, 1907-09. After his return to Monroe he was made first bishop of the Monroe South ward, serving in this capacity for 12 years. Later he was superintendent of the South Sevier stakes Sunday school, and at the time of his death was a member of the stake high council.

Mr. Swindle was mayor of Monroe for two terms and for 15 years was cashier of the Monroe State bank, until poor health forced his retirement. He operated a farm until three years ago.
