Jessie Harris Burt Sarrett, Jr., 74, a retired U.S. Army veteran, died August 25, 2007 at the Jackson V.A. Nursing Home. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today and after 12 noon Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Services are scheduled for 1 p.m Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.burial to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.
He was born in Jackson in 1933. He graduated from Central High School in 1951, where he was a member of the R.O.T.C. Team. He also graduated from Hinds Junior College in 1955.
Mr. Sarrett served in the U.S. Army for over twenty years and during that time he served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was also a recipient of the Bronze Star.
He was a devoted soldier, son, brother, uncle and most of all was devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a longtime member of the Church of God.
Survivors include: sister, Janice Pitts and her husband, Jerry, of Jackson; brother, Jackie Sarrett and his wife, Betty, of Byram; sister-in-laws, Beverly of Madison and Beatrice of Pearl; nephews, Jimmy Sarrett, Timmy Sarrett, Jay Sarrett, Larry Pitts, of Pearl, Michael Sarrett, Gary Sarrett of Madison, Jerry Pitts of Byram and Craig Sarrett of Terry; nieces, Judy Solonai of Pearl, Teresa Hunt of Memphis, Tenn., Wendy Bell of Raymond, Debbie Honea of Puckett, Patty Watson of Jackson, and Lisa Lee of Brandon; and a multitude of great-nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie Harris Burt Sarrett, Sr. and Viola Hand Sarrett; brothers, Johnny, James, and Jerry, and sister-in-law, Janelle.
He was truly loved by his entire family and will be dearly missed.
Flowers may be sent to Lakewood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
