Memorial services are 7 p.m. today at McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church. Mr. Sarrett donated his body to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Mr. Sarrett was a U.S. Army Dixie Division veteran. He was an honorary member of the Jackson Firefighters Association and a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the United Methodist Men's Club and the Sunday school class at McLaurin Heights United Methodist Church.
He had worked at the newspaper for 43 years and was on disability leave at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife, Bea; son, John Sarrett of Nashville; stepson, Ricky Hollinsworth of Jackson; stepdaughter, Ann Cianelli of Jackson; stepmother, Alma Sarrett of Jackson; brothers, James Sarrett of Pearl and Harris Sarrett Jr., Jackie Sarrett and Jerry Sarrett, all of Jackson; sister, Janice Pitts of Jackson; and six step grandchildren and two great step grandchildren.
